Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE)

Take part in YRE 2026!

The Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) programme invites young people between the ages of 11 and 25 to report on environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity and pollution through articles, photographs, short documentaries, podcasts, and even TikTok videos.

To learn more, join our information clinic on 1st October 2025 by registering here.

To participate in the YRE National Competition, follow these steps:

1. Complete the Registration Form to register your interest and stay up-to-date on important deadlines, opportunities, and resources.

2. Read through the awarding criteria for each category. Then investigate a local environmental issue, research solutions, create a report (in the form of an article, photographs, or video documentary), and share your work. Read more here.

3. Submit your final piece of work and the accompanying form for the 2026 National YRE Competition to eco-schools@keepnorthernirelandbeautiful.org by Friday, 24th April 2026.

The 1st place winner of each category in Northern Ireland is recognised at their local Green Flag Awards Ceremony and their work is published and submitted to the YRE International Competition
