SPEEDWELL TRUST

Speedwell Trust is a voluntary organisation based in the beautiful setting of Parkanaur Forest Park, near Dungannon. Parkanaur, managed by the Forest Service of Northern Ireland is home to a variety of woodland, grassland, wildflowers, bird and animal species, as well as a unique herd of white fallow deer. For almost 20 years the Speedwell Trust has delivered a wide range of environmental and community relations education programmes to schools through a dedicated and versatile team of committed staff. Fully equipped classrooms are available for educational activities and presentations. With a very central location schools from all across Northern Ireland and the Border Counties can access Speedwell programmes.

Environmental Education Activities

Speedwell Trust provides curriculum-linked environmental activities and classes for all educational stages, from nursery school through key stages 1-4. Students are able to carry out studies on the forest, the river, the pond, to gain attainment targets at various levels in the curriculum.

Speedwell Programmes

Speedwell offers a wide range of programmes at their centre in Parkanaur Forest Park and provide outreach programmes in schools.. Any of the Speedwell programmes may be adapted to suit the needs of the individual groups or to work within the existing curriculum teaching programme.

Pre School/Nursery - Spring Growing, Nursery Minibeasts, Forest Adventure         

Foundation & Key Stage 1- Autumn Watch, Wildlife Diversity, Spring Growing, Minibeast Hunt, Bird Watch

Key Stage 2 - Caring for Our Birds, Living Creatures, Investigating Wildflowers, Exploring Habitats, Food Chains, Orienteering & Team Building

Key Stage 3 & 4, River Study - Exploring the Torrent River and observing typical features from its source to its mouth, Study of Freshwater Ecosystems - Awareness of living things, use of identification keys, water quality surveys, food chains, life cycles and habitat comparisons. Orienteering & Teambuilding – working in teams to explore Parkanaur Forest Park

*Speedwell Trust welcomes all schools but encourages controlled and maintained schools, where possible, to participate jointly in all programmes.
