Cookstown District Council are supportive of the Eco Schools award scheme and can provide help and general guidance to schools on how to progress through the three stages of the awards scheme – bronze, silver and green flag.

Council officers can provide expertise on the themes of Litter, Waste, Recycling, Energy and Biodiversity and provide talks and presentations to schools on these themes on request.

School visits to the Council’s Recycling Centers can be organised as can a visit to view the willow fuelled biomass boiler at Cookstown Leisure Centre.

In 2009 the Council was delighted that the combined efforts of the Council, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful and our local schools culminated in the award of the first two Green Flags in the district. Since then we have had a fantastic response to the Eco-Schools Programme with 11 schools currently holding the Green Flag award.
