Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Environmental Resource Officer [ERO] Team is happy to assist schools in our area working on the Eco Schools programme. We can provide support across all topics through a range of talks and practical actions. We work across all key stages including pre-school and nursery groups. The ERO Team has developed a raft of programmes under the umbrella of the ‘LiveSmart’ brand which schools can avail of to support their Eco School activities. These programmes include:

PlasticSmart – an accredited award covering 5 stages of action within the school environment which increases awareness of single use plastics within school.
H20 on the go – a scheme to encourage pupils to bring and refill reusable bottles.
ClothesSmart – a programme of activities around fast fashion, its impacts and how we can support others through awareness of how we purchase, use and ultimately dispose of our clothing.
FoodSmart – activities linked to valuing food and how we can minimise food waste at home and in school.
LitterSmart – activities to enhance pupil awareness of the issues around litter as well as engaging in litter lifts.

Promotional materials are available to acknowledge participation and the ERO Team can tailor activities as required. As well as the Smart brand, Officers can work with schools on site specific projects linked to action plans. We are keen to promote schools working in cooperation with local partners whether from the business, church, community or voluntary sectors.

Officers are happy to have informal discussions with Eco Schools Coordinators or whole staff teams in schools as well as engage with pupils. Please contact us for further information.
