Bryson Charitable Group
Bryson Education has been providing environmental programmes to schools across Northern Ireland since 1984. In 2008-09, Education Officers made over 600 visits to schools across Northern Ireland involving around 50000 young people.
We currently deliver two education programmes which focus on Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and Energy Efficiency.
The Reduce, Re-use, Recycle programme, entitled ‘Sort it Out!!’, is designed to provide a range of activities including classroom workshops, drama, practical activities, presentations and encourages critical thinking skills.
The programme is supported by Belfast City Council and Lisburn City Council and currently operations are limited to these Council areas.
The Energy Efficiency Programme is available to all Primary Schools in Northern Ireland and is supported by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
This intervention involves the delivery of an interactive presentation, covering many aspects of energy and energy use including electricity generation, climate change, insulation, energy efficient products and why we need to use energy efficiently.
We also run an annual photographic competition with Sustainable Energy Ireland for post primary schools. The competition involves pupils taking submitting photographs taken relating to a specific energy topic, with the winning pictures made into a calendar.
Our work links with the Revised Curriculum for Northern Ireland and ties in with curriculum aim of ‘Empowering young people to achieve their potential and to make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives’.
Our programme is supported by a website developed with CCEA Multimedia and provides activities, information, quizzes and games for pupils along with support material and worksheets for teachers.
In 2008 Bryson Education was Charter Mark accredited. Charter Mark is the UK Government’s standard for excellence in customer service. We received two best practices, for flexibility of the programmes delivered and use of modern technology.
